Zodiac Jewelry – Go Beyond Your Birthstone and Tap into the Heavens
Astrological symbols have long been associated with Zodiac star signs. The planets, the elements, colors, and superstition have combined to link each sign of the Zodiac to a kind of totem representative of a particular constellation most visible during that time period.
As with birthstones, it is believed that wearing the symbols and stones connected to our astrological Sun sign contribute to our overall well-being, increase our vibration, and enhance our strengths and attributes.
It’s important to note that while there is overlap, our birthstones and our zodiac stones don’t necessarily match up by month. So, if you are an April baby, your birthstone may be a diamond, but your Zodiac gemstone might not be. Which means you have more gemstone options available to channel your inner power and shine like the star you are.
If you really want to ramp up your personal power, considering layering a piece of fine jewelry that features your birthstone with one that features your Zodiac sign or stone (or, hey, maybe both!).

History of Zodiac Signs and Their Meaning
Though humans have been looking to the heavens for guidance and clarity since the beginning of civilization, the Zodiac signs only came into being about 3000 years ago in ancient Babylonia. In the creation of the Zodiac, humans divided the sky into 12 equal portions, each of which corresponded to the movement of the sun at various times of the year.
While the Zodiac has astronomical roots, serving the ancient kingdoms as a means to bring order from chaos, it eventually expanded to include predictions about the fortunes and prospects of humans. These days, we are more apt to discuss the heavens in terms of what the signs mean to our personalities rather than their connection to astronomy.
What does YOUR sign say about you? And how does that stack up to your choice in fine jewelry?
Aries (March 22 – April 20)
Aries, the Ram, is a sign known for its strength and survival skills. Consider them the MacGyver's of the Zodiac, with innovation skills not to be believed. Like the ram, though, Aries is believed to be headstrong and impatient. To combat that perceived inflexibility and intolerance, those born in Aries often wear Ram sign jewelry as well as jewelry that features bloodstone, diamond, ruby, carnelian, or garnet.
Taurus (April 21 – May 20)
Driven, trustworthy, patient and stoic, the Taurus is thought to be jealous, unwaveringly averse to change, and stubborn (hence the Bull totem). Soften your touch, let go of the reins a bit, and calm your mental stress by balancing out the headstrong bull with jewelry featuring sapphire, a stone known for growth, wisdom, and honesty.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Geminis are known for their activity, both mentally and physically. Those born under the sign of the Twins can certainly benefit from a stone like moonstone, which assists with inner harmony and selflessness. Agate is also helpful for this sign, supplying balance and a calming, grounding influence.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Don’t let its pincers and tough exterior fool you. The Cancer crab is really nurturing, intuitive, supportive, and loving. But they risk losing themselves by giving too much. With Cancer’s planetary ruler being the Moon, it’s no surprise one of their zodiac stones is moonstone, which is believed to offer protection for Cancer's sensitive nature and enhances inner growth and spiritual perception.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Given that Leo’s symbol is the lion, it should come as no surprise that personality traits associated with this sign are bravery, warmth, protectiveness, and generosity. Born leaders, they can also be exceptionally competitive and egotistical. To ensure pride does not end controlling them, Leos should consider wearing their birth sign and perhaps add some fine jewelry that features onyx (which is, appropriately, known as the warrior stone).
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Virgos are known for being humble, responsible, gentle and kind, but they can also be serious worriers that fall into people pleasing and micromanaging if they aren’t careful. To ensure a Virgo can always find the wherewithal to let go and turn the other cheek, wear your birth sign as a reminder, and look for fine jewelry featuring green jade, blue tourmaline, or moss agate.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Libras are known for seeking balance and harmony, especially in relationships, but they can also have difficulty making decisions, hold onto old baggage, and worry too much about what others think. To combat that, get thee some peridot! Peridot is a beautiful green gem that personifies grounding and invokes lightness of being, providing the perfect balance for someone struggling to find balance in their own life.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Scorpios are often the most misunderstood sign of the Zodiac, mostly because people know them by one of their totems, the scorpion. Known to be shy, secretive, and loyal, but also feisty and potentially dangerous, Scorpios are a water sign, and those waters run deep. To avoid getting lost in the depths and to soothe their notoriously intense emotions, Scorpios should get themselves something featuring their Zodiac symbol and/or fine jewelry with aquamarine or opal gemstones.
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 21)
Ambitious, optimistic, curious, sophisticated, and loyal, the Sagittarius loves a good adventure, and what better way to document all the amazing places you’ve been than with charms! Layer your sign’s symbol with stones like tanzanite, blue topaz, turquoise, and obsidian to bring more positive thinking and calm to their days.
Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
Capricorns are known for their ambition, pragmatism, reliability, and work ethic, which can also make them overly stressed and closed off. You often find yourself taking care of others, sometimes at the expense of your own well-being. Consider picking up a piece of fine jewelry featuring your astrological sign as a reminder that it’s okay to give yourself some R&R and ‘you’ time now and again.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 19)
Progressive, intelligent, original, and independent, these water bearers are thought to daydream a lot and to be a tad unpredictable. That much thinking about the future and sailing uncharted territories can be exhausting! Consider wearing your Zodiac symbol or fine jewelry featuring aquamarine or hematite to help you navigate the unknown.
Pisces (February 20 – March 21)
The Pisces fish is known to be creative, romantic, compassionate and intuitive. However, that also can make them overly sensitive, which can be overwhelming. To combat emotional overload, dear sensitive Pisces, wear this little companion around your neck to help you encourage spirituality, inner peace, and healing.
