Rolex Watch Repair

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Anyone who owns a Rolex knows that these watches are a worthwhile investment that can last plenty of lifetimes if they are properly maintained. In fact, given their exceptional quality, there’s a good chance you will never have to have them serviced at all, except as maybe relates to superficial cracks on the face or the need to replace a link or a band.

Because Rolex watches are crafted with the utmost precision and held to the highest standard, you would be remiss in entrusting their repair with anyone but the best. That is why Rolex only certifies certain jewelers and technicians with the care and repair of their watches.

Hamilton Jewelers is one of the few fine jewelry stores with a staff trained to handle the precise specifications and provide the premium level of service Rolex requires. If you are looking to purchase a Rolex or need to have one you currently own repaired, you can be sure your watch is in good hands with our team. Upon completion of a full service, your Rolex will be covered by a Service Guarantee for a period of two years (provided the watch is not serviced by an unauthorized third party or non-Rolex-manufactured parts or accessories are added).

Resetting Vintage Jewelry

vintage

Vintage jewelry has value for many reasons and is especially delicate and vulnerable because of their age (and their possible significance as a personal family heirloom). In addition to having sentimental value, it can also have value because of its rarity. Certain gemstones are more difficult to find these days, for instance, so a piece that happens to feature a rare stone can carry a hefty price tag, provided the stone is still in good condition.

One of the ways to preserve the value of vintage jewelry is through the process of resetting. Resetting provides you the opportunity to revitalize vintage pieces and outdated styles, all while honoring the original design. Think of it as a means to preserve legacy while also creating a one-of-a-kind, personalized piece.

That said, there are plenty of factors to consider when resetting a piece.

Condition

What is the condition of the piece, and will it withstand being reset? For instance, a stone that may have a few cracks will likely need to be cut down in order to preserve it, which will mean lowering its value. If that is something that matters to you, consider whether it’s worth it. No matter how hard and sturdy fine jewelry can be, years or wear and tear still take a toll, and that toll is greater on certain metals and gems than others. Pearls, for example, don’t wear well if they are not properly cared for

Cost

Before deciding to modify a piece of jewelry that is in poor condition, it is important to consider if it is worth investing more money into it. Establish your budget for the project beforehand, especially if you are purchasing a pre-owned piece of vintage jewelry with a higher price tag. While gemstones are known for their durability, they can often be damaged and require recutting, which can end up being costly and result in a loss of weight.

Look and Style

Styles and preferences have changed quite a bit over the years, and while historically, gems were cut in ways and shapes that created an overall effect, current trends favor size overall else when it comes to the gemstone cut. This means you will likely have to accommodate these differences by altering your resetting shape and style and managing your expectations about what the final piece will look like.

A Qualified Jeweler

It goes without saying that you want the person charged with repairing and/or resetting your jewelry to be vetted and have the appropriate level of skills and expertise. For old cluster pieces especially, even if you desire to maintain the existing style, you will want to consult with a qualified jeweler to ensure that the stones are secured in their settings and the structure is sound. When looking for a jeweler, look for one who, at the bare minimum, offers the following:

  • Remodeling services
  • Samples of styles you prefer
  • An accurate timeline for how long it will take to complete the job
  • Certifications of their skills
