Design A Pearl is a Hamilton exclusive and one of the store's oldest traditions. The idea is simple. You begin a necklace for someone with a single cultured pearl on a 14k yellow gold chain. Then, for each birthday, holiday, or milestone that follows, you add another pearl. Over years the strand fills in, and the finished necklace is a record of every occasion. Each pearl is a gift in its own right, and the growing strand becomes a story the recipient can tell.
Hamilton offers a starter necklace with one 6mm cultured pearl on a 14k yellow gold chain, as well as three-pearl and four-pearl starters for a fuller beginning. Additional pearls are sold individually in a choice of sizes, and our Princeton workshop restrings the necklace each time a pearl is added. The program is most often started for a newborn, a goddaughter, or a granddaughter, but it works equally well for a graduate or a bride who wants a strand built over time. Pearls are matched for size and luster as they are added, so the finished necklace looks like it was made at once. Many families keep a card listing the occasion for each pearl.
