Michael Aram at Hamilton Home
Michael Aram is an American artist who began making metal objects for the home in 1989 after a trip to India, where he found craftsmen still working metal by hand. He has kept his workshop there since. Each piece starts as a sculpture, usually of something from nature, and is cast, forged and finished by hand, so the leaves, branches and birds keep the marks of their making. In Hindi, aram means gently, with care, and that is the instruction given to the workshop.
Hamilton Home carries the collections that have become Aram's signatures. Lovebirds, two birds on a branch, appears on frames, trinket boxes, nut bowls and dishes and is the piece most often given for an engagement or anniversary. Butterfly Ginkgo covers a lazy Susan, frames and candle holders. White Orchid and Olive Branch make cheese boards, bread baskets and cake servers for the table. There are Dogwood and Gold Heart frames, Elephant, Animals and Dog Bone frames for a nursery or a pet, and a Twist menorah and Heart dreidel for Hanukkah. The Bunny cup and spoon and the Bunny coin bank are frequent baby gifts.
The finish and weight of the metal come through best in person, and the collection is set out in Princeton and Palm Beach. Book an appointment and our team will help you pair a frame with a serving piece, add Michael Aram to a registry, or choose a gift for a wedding or a new baby. Every order is gift wrapped.
