Herend at Hamilton Home
Herend was founded in 1826 in the Hungarian village of the same name, and it has painted porcelain by hand ever since. Queen Victoria ordered a service at the Great Exhibition of 1851, and the butterfly-and-flower pattern that carried her name is still in production. Each piece passes through the hands of sculptors, mold makers and painters, which is why no two animals are quite alike. The fishnet pattern, a lattice of fine brushstrokes in blue, raspberry, rust, green or black, is the house's signature.
Hamilton Home keeps a deep selection of Herend figurines: owls, squirrels, bunnies, butterflies, dragonflies and the Party Tiger, along with the Queen Victoria heart bonbon and the Lovebirds watering can. Baby shoes, rattles, tooth fairy boxes and prayer boxes in blue and pink are the pieces families return for with each new arrival. Crosses in blue and raspberry are given at christenings and first communions. Herend suits a collector adding one animal a year as well as someone choosing a single piece for a new mother.
The figurines are small, and the painting rewards a close look, so we encourage you to see them in person in Princeton or Palm Beach. Book an appointment and our team will help you choose a color, match a piece to a collection already underway, or set up a registry for a wedding or a baby. Every order is gift wrapped.
