IWC Schaffhausen at Hamilton Jewelers
IWC was founded in 1868 in Schaffhausen, in German-speaking northern Switzerland, by the American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones, who wanted to combine American production methods with Swiss craft. The location, far from the watchmaking valleys of the west, gave the company an engineering-led character it has kept. IWC is known for the Portugieser, first made in 1939 for two Portuguese merchants who wanted a wristwatch with marine chronometer precision, for the Pilot's Watches that descend from its 1936 Special Pilot's Watch, and for the Ingenieur, designed for engineers working near magnetic fields.
Hamilton stocks IWC across the Pilot's Watch family, including the Mark XX, the Chronograph 41, the TOP GUN editions in ceramic and Ceratanium, and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas and APXGP editions. The Portugieser is here in Automatic 40 and 42, Chronograph 41 and Perpetual Calendar 44 forms, alongside a hand-wound tourbillon. The Portofino offers a dressier, slimmer alternative, including the 34 millimeter Day and Night. These are watches for someone who values a clear dial and a technically honest movement.
An IWC is a watch to see in person, where the size and finish of a 41 or 44 millimeter case can be judged properly. Visit our watch salons in Princeton or Palm Beach, or book an appointment and we will have the references you want to compare set out. Every order is gift wrapped, and our team can help you choose a model for someone else.
